Reviewing Mergers
Under the Competition Act, mergers of all sizes and in all sectors of the economy are subject to review by the Commissioner of Competition to determine whether they will likely result in a substantial lessening or prevention of competition.
New Laws for the Competitor Agreements
On March 12, 2010, two amended provisions of the Competition Act come into force. The changes to the Act allow for more effective criminal enforcement against the most serious types of cartel agreements, while providing businesses with more freedom and flexibility to benefit from legitimate alliances with their competitors.
Rebates: The Real Deal
Consumer rebate promotions include any type of promotion that involves a partial refund or discount from a manufacturer or retailer to consumers upon the purchase of a product. Refunds are normally paid in the form of cash or cheque.
FACT: Fraud Awareness for Commercial Targets
The Fraud Awareness for Commercial Targets (FACT) campaign is an outreach and education initiative of the Competition Bureau that provides businesses and not-for-profit organizations with the facts necessary to avoid becoming victims of fraud, which costs them millions of dollars annually.
Gas Prices
Many Canadians who contact the Competition Bureau have questions concerning gasoline pricing. This site contains answers to frequently asked questions, as well as information about the many Bureau activities concerning gasoline and other petroleum products.
Operation Mirage
Operation Mirage is a campaign designed to disrupt and deter illegal telemarketing operators. Through this campaign, the Bureau is pursuing enforcement action against companies engaged in selling fraudulent business directories.

Bid-rigging
Bid-rigging schemes are harmful to private and public sector organizations because they incur the initial cost of establishing a tendering process, which is then undermined by a covert scheme to charge them higher prices, and deprives them of the other benefits of competition.

The latest initiative in the Competition Bureau’s continuing health fraud efforts, Project False Hope targets cancer-related health fraud through a combined enforcement and education campaign.
